Embracing Your Inner Voice: Navigating the Journey of Self-Discovery
In my experience, I've found that the most profound insights often come from listening to our own voice. It's a journey that I’ve dealt with since childhood—one that has taught me invaluable lessons about the importance of listening to my own voice amidst the noise of the world.
I believe that we all are born with intuition but the noise from the world tends to drown it out. We get opened to thought patterns such as self-doubt, feeling inadequate and feeling a need to keep up with the illusions of what other people present as the right way.
In my mind, listening to your inner voice and your intuition becomes stronger the more you trust yourself, not be afraid to be imperfect and the more you are willing to accept yourself as you are, imperfections and all.
Staying Grounded Amidst External Pressures
One thing I've realized is that insecurity can lead people to seek control over others. It's a sobering thought, but understanding this dynamic has helped me maintain a sense of autonomy. While I'm open to hearing different perspectives, I make sure that my own will and agenda remain steadfast.
If you are used to being influenced by others in a way that overrides your own voice, then it will take some time for you to get to a place where you flip the script on this, but understand it is not impossible. One personality trait that has helped me since childhood is that I’m rebellious by nature when it comes to my mind. I’m willing to be alone if need be when it comes to my beliefs. This has been both a blessing and a challenge. I had to overcome the thoughts of feeling left out, not fitting in and I had to be willing to embrace thinking and being different from most people who were immediately around me such as family and friends.
This is why our support system and who we choose to surround ourselves with is so important. Growing up as a child, my choices as to who I was around were mostly out of my control. But as an adult, for the most part, I can limit who I’m actually friends with and that becomes more of a choice. This is why it’s important to not be afraid to lose someone if their purpose in your life has been fulfilled. Some people are in our lives for a reason and a season and not necessarily for a lifetime.
The Power of Awareness
Words have a remarkable influence—they can uplift, trigger, or even manipulate. Being aware of this power has allowed me to filter out negativity and stay true to myself. By staying rooted in my own awareness, I've been able to minimize the impact of external attempts to sway or control me.
I've come to realize that how people behave is often shaped by a multitude of factors—personal history, upbringing, and past experiences, to name a few. While not every action may make sense at first glance, embracing the complexity of human nature has fostered empathy and understanding in my interactions with others. But let me be clear on one thing, having empathy and understanding for others does not mean that we have to allow them to run over us and control us. Having empathy while setting healthy boundaries is a balance worth pursuing. And although it will never be perfect, the closer we are to that balance, the better we will be able to flow on our journey.
