Hypocrisy: Do You Fuel It or Let It Go?

Have you ever encountered someone whose actions didn't align with their words? It's a common experience, and it can be frustrating, to say the least. But here's the thing: how we react to hypocrisy says a lot about us. Do we give it energy, allowing it to consume our thoughts and emotions? Or do we choose to release it, focusing on what truly matters in our own lives?

Recognizing Hypocrisy

Hypocrisy can sneak up on us in various forms. It might be a friend who preaches about honesty but lies when it's convenient for them. Or maybe it’s someone who lives by the philosophy ‘’Do as I say and not as I do.’’  This is someone whose actions contradict their words.. Regardless of the context, spotting hypocrisy requires us to be honest with ourselves and accept the truth of the situation regardless of what it may be.

Confronting or Letting Go

When faced with hypocrisy, we often feel compelled to confront it. We want to hold others accountable for their actions, hoping to restore integrity and fairness. However, confronting hypocrisy can be draining and even futile at times. It's like trying to douse a fire with gasoline – it only fuels the flames. Sometimes, the best course of action is to let it go. Instead of investing our energy in fruitless battles, we can choose to focus on our own values and principles.

Personally, I like to see every action that I take as depositing energy into the universe.  That doesn’t mean that there aren’t times to confront something. There’s no right or wrong answer here.  It’s more about what is valuable to you.  For me, my peace of mind is valuable.  I carefully pick and choose what battles I want to confront.  If it’s something that’s not going to matter even a day from now, I tend to release it.  However, there are some moments that I will stand on principle and face something.

Cultivating Inner Peace

At the end of the day, our response to hypocrisy shapes our inner landscape. Holding onto resentment and anger only poisons our hearts and minds. On the other hand, releasing negativity frees us to embrace peace and contentment. It's not about condoning hypocrisy; it's about prioritizing our well-being. By redirecting our energy towards what we value the most, we cultivate a sense of inner peace that transcends external chaos.

As I stated previously, if there is a moment in which our value aligns with confronting a situation, then at that point it will be all about how we approach it.  If that moment requires us to release that situation, then that is a course of action as well.  All of this depends on you, your energy and what you value.  This is why the most important piece to this conversation is, Being Honest with Yourself.
